TEXAS TEMPORARY ASSISTANCE FOR NEEDY FAMILIES
Description: (TANF program) Provides financial and medical assistance to kids and their parents that are in need. These families receive monthly cash and medical coverage depending on whether their eligible and on their yearly income.
Eligibility:
-Must be a resident of Texas either pregnant or with kids under the age of 19
-Have a very low income or be unemployed
-A US national citizen/ Legal Alien/ or permanent Resident

TEXAS MEDICAID AND CHIP
Description: This program provides medical Coverage to eligible people that are in need and to increase the well being and health of kids and families that otherwise would go without Medical Assistance.
Eligibility:
-Resident of the state of Texas
– A U.S. national, citizen, permanent resident, or legal alien
– In need of health care/insurance assistance, whose financial situation would be characterized as low income or very low income.
– Either pregnant, a parent or relative caretaker of a dependent child(ren) under age 19, blind, have a disability or a family member in your household with a disability, or be 65 years of age or older.

TEXAS SPECIAL SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION PROGRAM FOR WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN (WIC)
Description: The Texas Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) is a nutrition program that helps pregnant women, new mothers, and young children eat well, learn about nutrition, and stay healthy. Nutrition education and counseling, nutritious foods, and assistance with access to health care are provided to low-income women, infants, and children through the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program, popularly known as WIC.
Eligibility:
– resident of the state of Texas
– a pregnant, breastfeeding and/or postpartum woman
– an infant or child up to 5 years of age
– and individually determined by a health professional to be at nutrition risk.
*A person who participates or has family members who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Medicaid or Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), automatically meets the income eligibility requirement.

TEXAS UNEMPLOYMENT INSURANCE
Description: Unemployment insurance benefits provide temporary financial assistance to workers unemployed through no fault of their own that meet Texas’ eligibility requirements.
Requirements:
-Must have worked in Texas during the past 12 to 18 months
– Have at least a minimum amount of wages as required by our guidelines
– Must also be able to work, available for work, and looking for work each week that you are requesting benefits.

SUPPLEMENTAL NUTRITION ASSISTANCE PROGRAM (SNAP)
Description: Helps people buy the food they need for good health. People also can buy garden seeds with SNAP benefits.
SNAP food benefits are put onto the Lone Star Card and can be used just like a credit card at any store that accepts SNAP.
SNAP can’t be used to:
Buy tobacco.
Buy alcoholic drinks.
Buy things you can’t eat or drink.
Pay for food bills you owe.
Qualifications:
– People who don’t have a lot of money as long as they meet program rules.
-Some adults might not have to work to get benefits, such as those who have a disability or are pregnant.
